High School Science Fair Entries
Last Saturday (March 1), Lauren Johnson and Adrianna Mukai (both in 11th grade) participated in the 2025 Hawaii District Science and Engineering Fair. Their project—”Identifying Asteroid Properties from LCO Observations”—made use of the worldwide Las Cumbres Observatory network to take pictures of 9 asteroids which might pose a threat to earth in the future. Based on these observations, they succeeded in identifying the orbits and estimating the sizes of over half of the asteroids. Lauren and Adrianna placed second in their category. In addition, they received the Dr. Don Worsencroft Award (from the Sierra Club) for an outstanding research project in the physical sciences; they also received the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award. (You can see their project—as well as the other science fair entries—at the link included with this announcement.) Let’s congratulate Lauren and Adrianna for all of their hard work on this project, and for representing Christian Liberty well!
